MALC Principal Addresses McCain on Education Funding
Senator John McCain visited Bullhead City this morning to campaign for the upcoming elections in a Town Hall-style meeting at the Firehouse Coffee Co. After addressing the crowd of more than 100 people on the subjects of immigration, health care, and spending reform, the senator opened the floor for questions.
Drumline Sounds Off At 1st Football Game
School spirit was booming at the first football game of the season last Friday at Rotary Park. That's because the newly formed Patriots Drumline was on the field drumming up support for our gridiron gang. The game was called in the second quarter due to a powerful storm with heavy rains and lightning, but the thunder in the sky was no match for the crack of our snares and the booming bass drums on the drumline.
Volleyball Loses Close One Against Pillar Academy
High school Volleyball experienced their first loss Tuesday night at the Young Scholars Academy gym against Pillar Academy of Needles. The match went all five sets but saw Pillar walk away with the win.
The first set went to Pillar 25-21. MALC took the second set 26-24 led by the serving attack of Kaycee Hurt and defensive work of Dawn Astemborski.

The Patriots and Lady Patriots kick off their respective seasons on Friday. The volleyball team travels to Lake Havasu City to take on Skyline West. The game begins at 4:00 pm in the aquatic center. Coach Weiler has high expectations from her team this season. The squad is a mix of returning players with a few key additions, as well.

Due to equipment failure, Mohave Accelerated Schools lost all internet and email capability last Thursday. After several days of patiently waiting for service, Frontier Communication was finally able to resolve the issue and get us back up and running. "It is very challenging to run and operate a school without modern luxuries in today's times, but we survived," said Principal Casey Mulligan.
Messy Science

High school students in 4th period Chemistry got hands on with science yesterday. The class instructor, Ms. Gleue, demonstrated how a substance can have properties of both a solid and a liquid. Students mixed cornstarch and water and got their hands dirty analyzing the resulting substance.
We're Baaaaack!
Mohave Accelerated Schools opened their doors today for the new school year. From 3:30 – 6:00 PM, we will be having a parent/student “Open House” orientation. All staff will be present in their rooms to answer any questions. Principal Casey Mulligan will conduct two “Welcome Back” presentations at 4 PM & 5 PM for the parents in the main cafeteria. Refreshments will be offered in the cafeteria, so feel free to tour the campus. If you cannot attend the Open House, please stop by the office to pick up some needed information.
Free Sports Physicals
Parents, Fox Creek Urgent Care on the parkway is doing free sports physicals until Friday Aug. 13. The kids just have to take the sports physical form and their parent has to have an ID. They are free and they do not have to have an appointment. Please print the Physical form and take it to them.
Volleyball Sign-ups and Try-outs Announced
High School and Middle School girls volleyball will have meetings and sign-ups on Thursday, August 5th. The meetings will be held in the High School cafeteria at 3:00 for grades 9-12, and at 3:30 for grades 6-8. Try-outs will be held on Monday, August 9th after school at those same times. Please plan to attend the mandatory meeting to ensure your chance to try-out for your team. We are looking forward to a great season!
